HISTORY OF SHELBY COUNTY COOP EAR-OF-CORN TRADEMARK
corn.jpg (32417 bytes)

Shelby County Co-op was founded back in 1929 for the purpose of providing local farmers with their seed, feed, fertilizer, petroleum and propane needs at competitive prices. In the beginning, we only were able to serve local Shelby County folks, but now 70 years later, we're still owned and controlled by participating farmers but we provide service for both farm and non-farm customers in some 40 counties, from U.S. Hwy 40 to the Ohio River, and even down in Kentucky. Our Indiana operations are physically located in Shelbyville, Bloomington, Henryville, and Palmyra. Our Kentucky location's in Shepherdsville. With over 12,000 customers, Shelby County Co-op is an $11 million dollar corporation today. Headquartered in Shelbyville, Indiana, we are uniquely positioned to meet the needs of farmers and non-farmers alike, as close to you as your computer.

Now, about that trademark: in the mid-80s Shelby County Co-op wanted our propane delivery trucks to stand out. The idea of the corn cob painted on the barrels of our propane trucks was the result. We thought the marketing strategy was so great that Shelby County Co-op made it our trademark design and that's we have today! All of our propane delivery trucks and storage supply tanks are painted with that bright original ear-of-corn trademark.
